Photo Friday | Latin Quarter Galway

Way back in February I went to Galway for a couple of days. While it was cold and rainy (not completely unexpected) I had a nice visit. The city is small, and easily walkable. I ended up going a day trip to Connemara during one of my days there so there are few spots in Galway I’d like to go back and explore further.

From my short visit my favourite area was the beautiful and lively Latin Quarter. There were a variety of shops, restaurants, and pubs, and plenty of street music. Unlike in Dublin where street musicians tend to play more modern songs (I hear lots of Ed Sheeran and Oasis walking along Grafton Street in Dublin) it was mostly Celtic music that I heard on the street of Galway.

Don’t forget there’s only a couple days left to enter my Ireland contest. I’m celebrating a year in Ireland by giving away some souvenirs and treats from here in Dublin. Enter here before August 20.

In other starting on Wednesday next week I’ll be Edinburgh, Scotland for a few days. It’ll be my first time visiting Edinburgh or anywhere in Scotland for that matter. I’m excited to check out The Fringe Festival, and see a bit of the city. If you have any recommendations for me while I’m in Edinburgh or Scotland let me know. I’ll be updating daily on Snapchat and Instagram so be sure to follow along.

Things to Know

While in Galway I stayed at the Galway City Hostel. This was a great budget accommodation close to the Galway bus station and train station. The dorms were clean, and modern, and there was a nice shared kitchen space. The hostel is about a 10 minute walk to the Latin Quarter. I paid for my own stay here, and really enjoyed it.

I haven’t been to Galway, love that there’s traditional music in the streets! Super jealous you are headed to Scotland!!

I remember the performers on the banks of the Themes and many were quite remarkable. Given the choice, I would much rather hear traditional Irish songs in Ireland than be bombarded with only contemporary selections. It sounds like Galway would really be a great place to visit.

I’ve only been to Dublin & I also remember the street performers on Grafton Street. It was mostly modern tunes. It’s nice to know that Galway is more Celtic themed.

That shot just pulls me in. Love the warm tones and imagining that Celtic music. I’ll just have to see it for myself one day.
