Photo Friday | My Places of Paradise

This edition of Photo Friday are about some places and things that are paradise to me.

Paradise in Helsinki, Finland.

Paradise often brings up the image of beaches and warm weather, but I like finding paradise wherever I go. I love visiting parks in the middle of cities. This is from Suomenlinna Fortress, an island fortress just outside of Helsinki. While this UNESCO world heritage site was pretty busy with tourists when I was there, I didn’t have to go too far to find a quiet and beautiful spot for myself.

Food paradise in Madrid, Spain

Paradise in Madrid is food, like this plate of Huevos Rotos (it’s basically French Fries topped with fried egg and Iberico ham). Yum.

Musical Paradise in New York City

As a theatre nerd I have to say anytime I can see a live show (especially if it’s a Tony Award Winning production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch in New York City) well I’m all in.

Paradise in New Orleans

New Orleans is paradise. It combined some of my favourite activities eating a lot of delicious food, and then walking around, snapping photos and taking in the vibe of this unique city.

Ocean Paradise in Vancouver, Canada.

I live in a landlocked province so I love any chance to be by the ocean. This is a photo I took last summer in Vancouver. The mountain and sea views in this city are always amazing.

Road trips

I love going on a road trip and hitting the open road. This photo was taken in Northern Ontario when I was doing a solo road trip across Canada in 2013.

Montreal, Canada - wandering the streets and taking photos.

Montreal became one of my favourite cities. I loved wandering the streets and taking photos.

View from Hotel MacDonald in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Paradise in my hometown of Edmonton, Canada. A nice view of the North Saskatchewan River Valley from the Hotel MacDonald.

What does paradise mean to you?

I like your different take on paradise and keeping it local, and all those venues are great combination of urban and beautiful landscapes

oh wow! i liked this post very much. never read anything like it! what is paradise to me? hmmmmm, not sure I have ever really given it a thought. i would have to say that for me, the closest thing to paradise was staying in my gorgeous hotel overlooking the Aegean Sea in Santorini, vacationing at the Reynold’s Plantation in Georgia with the infinity pool overlooking the amazing mountains, sunbathing in Jackson Hole at the 4 seasons with snow covered mountains all around me, and eating red beans & rice and all the other wonderful local treats in New Orleans. πŸ˜‰

My idea of paradise is like a lot peoples, a place or state of happiness. Maybe a beach with a soft breeze, a little tropical Latin music, a cold drink and great people to share it with. Probably because it is associated with vacations from work. Being from Calgary I did have to giggle when mentioned Edmonton. πŸ˜‰

hmmm, what does paradise mean for me? That’s such a hard question! There are lots of things I really enjoy doing. Getting lost in a book and enjoying a cappuccino in a Greek coffee shop. Feeling the sun on my skin on a Beach in Montenegro. Enjoying a Carlsberg beer in Copenhagen. Sometimes, just sitting on the couch with my loved ones. There are so many things and Paradise is in every single one! (this sounds so cheesy!)

Never understood what a photo roulette is.. nice article anyways!

What a good idea to add more of your own favorites for Travel Photo Roulette on your own site! I may steal it for future themes, if you don’t mind… Judging by your paradise photos, we have very similar tastes, though my list would have to include chocolate!

I really love your round-up of places. I think among your chosen paradise, I would choose to visit New Orleans.

A lot of great shots with a lot of different meanings to the word “paradise”. I have to side with New Orleans though. That’s my idea of paradise too!

I hear you about the food!! Paradise for me is a great little cafe, the perfect latte, and some tasty local baked goods. And the best part is that I can find it all over the world!
