Everyone has their own version of paradise. Here are some places and things that are paradise to me.

Outside of Canada

Paradise often brings up the image of beaches and warm weather. Personally, I love visiting parks in the middle of cities. This is Suomenlinna Fortress, an island fortress just outside of Helsinki. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was busy, but I was able to find a place of peace and quite.
So many great things about Madrid including food, like this plate of huevos rotos (fries topped with a fried egg and Iberico ham). Yum.
As a theatre nerd whenever I can see a live show especially if it’s a Tony Award Winning production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch with Neil Patrick Harris in New York City, well, I’m there.
New Orleans is paradise. It combined some of my favourite activities. This includes eating delicious food, walking around, taking pictures and vibing with this unique city.

In Canada

I live in Alberta, a landlocked province. I’ve come to love any chance to be by the ocean. This is a photo I took of Vancouver. The views of the mountain and sea here are always fantastic.
I love going on a road trip and hitting the open road. This photo of Lake Superior in Ontario from my 2013 solo road trip.
Montreal became one of my favourite cities. I loved wandering the streets and taking pictures. My definition of Paradise.
Paradise in my hometown of Edmonton. This beautiful view of the North Saskatchewan River Valley is from the Hotel Macdonald.

What does paradise mean to you?

  1. I’m going to New Orleans very soon and can’t wait. I love the photos you have chosen. To me travel is my paradise, wherever it is in the world.

  2. I like your different take on paradise and keeping it local, and all those venues are great combination of urban and beautiful landscapes

  3. oh wow! i liked this post very much. never read anything like it! what is paradise to me? hmmmmm, not sure I have ever really given it a thought. i would have to say that for me, the closest thing to paradise was staying in my gorgeous hotel overlooking the Aegean Sea in Santorini, vacationing at the Reynold’s Plantation in Georgia with the infinity pool overlooking the amazing mountains, sunbathing in Jackson Hole at the 4 seasons with snow covered mountains all around me, and eating red beans & rice and all the other wonderful local treats in New Orleans. 😉

  4. My idea of paradise is like a lot peoples, a place or state of happiness. Maybe a beach with a soft breeze, a little tropical Latin music, a cold drink and great people to share it with. Probably because it is associated with vacations from work. Being from Calgary I did have to giggle when mentioned Edmonton. 😉

  5. hmmm, what does paradise mean for me? That’s such a hard question! There are lots of things I really enjoy doing. Getting lost in a book and enjoying a cappuccino in a Greek coffee shop. Feeling the sun on my skin on a Beach in Montenegro. Enjoying a Carlsberg beer in Copenhagen. Sometimes, just sitting on the couch with my loved ones. There are so many things and Paradise is in every single one! (this sounds so cheesy!)

  6. What a good idea to add more of your own favorites for Travel Photo Roulette on your own site! I may steal it for future themes, if you don’t mind… Judging by your paradise photos, we have very similar tastes, though my list would have to include chocolate!

  7. A lot of great shots with a lot of different meanings to the word “paradise”. I have to side with New Orleans though. That’s my idea of paradise too!

  8. I hear you about the food!! Paradise for me is a great little cafe, the perfect latte, and some tasty local baked goods. And the best part is that I can find it all over the world!
